I do not know about anyone else, but I love working with 2×4′s and making them into something else(nice). They’re everywhere and its easy wood to salvage (so long as you take out all of the metal stuff like nails/screws etc…)

What types of projects have you all done or wanted to do with 2×4 as the wood source?

I know Nick did up a nice stool (only taking up 1 2×4) and has plans in the works to make improvements! Jim also put together a table (which is at the Space) using mainly 2×4′s (ok 2×8′s for the top, but that doesn’t really change the mechanics of the process much).

I really want to make a ‘nice’ coffee table from 2x4s. Or maybe a nice upper cabinet (just to see what’s possible).

The show “America’s Best Handyman” used to have a competition of what could you make with 1 4×8 piece of plywood. I propose that we have a competition where we vote on who can make the ‘best’ item (very subjective :P) out of a 2×4.

You know I’m game for this! Like you said I definitely plan to do another iteration of the stool but I have a few other ideas… I love the idea of competitions in general. Like mini-trebuchets!

Try getting idea from http://caldwells.com/, this will help you on all your woodworking needs.
